Waiting On Wednesday (39)

Waiting On Wednesday is a meme where you basically share an upcoming book that you’re excited to read. It’s hosted over at Breaking the Spine by Jill.

The book I’m waiting on today is: My Life After Now by Jessica Verdi.

WHAT NOW?

Lucy just had the worst week ever. Seriously, mega bad. And suddenly, it’s all too much—she wants out. Out of her house, out of her head, out of her life. She wants to be a whole new Lucy. So she does something the old Lucy would never dream of.

And now her life will never be the same. Now, how will she be able to have a boyfriend? What will she tell her friends? How will she face her family? Now, every moment is a precious gift. She never thought being positive could be so negative. But now, everything’s different…because now she’s living with HIV.

Of course, how could I not talk about the cover of this book first? I absolutely adore it. It’s a girl in a dress, yes, but it’s not your typical girl in a dress, and I love that! The girl is facing away, and she’s more to the side, which makes it much different from those typical covers. Also, I like the concept of this one, since it’s never been done before. So many people don’t understand this disease, and I think it’s great that the author is going to be taking out some of the stigma, I hope.

This book will be released on April 1st, 2013.

  1. This looks like the kind of book that I'm going to have to read with a box of tissues next to me! I haven't read anything like this before, and I'm really interested to see how the HIV aspect is going to be tackled. Great pick Aneeqah!

  3. Hmmm, not sure this is something I'd want to read and on first appearances, I would never believe the book was about that.

However, after looking I guess the red could symbolise it. Still a beautiful dress and I hope you enjoy when you read! :)

  4. Aneeqah, I just LOVE the cover of this. I keep seeing it and staring at it, but I don't know if I want to read the book. It seems so serious and honestly, HIV has never been done before in YA - which is great, that it's finally being done, but I'm not sure how this book is going to be. I think I'm going to wait for some reviews to come out before adding it to my shelf, but I agree with you 100% on that cover. Gorgeous. :)

  5. I did a lot of in-depth work into HIV and AIDs recently... and I don't think I'm ready to read a book like this so soon. I do agree that it's nice to see a different-ish concept being tackled, though. I can't wait to see what you think of it! :) And yes, the cover is simply stunning. It's one of my favourites. ;)

  17. Ooo, so pretty! I hadn't heard of this book at all, so thanks for the heads up. You're right in that we don't see many books on this subject, especially for YA.
